Support from start to finish
– FIRST PREGNANCY APPOINTMENT: PREGNANCY CARE –
Ideally between 7 and 10 weeks of pregnancy, but we will be happy to schedule your appointment even if your pregnancy is more advanced!
During this first meeting, our doctor will:
- Ask about your medical and family history
- Perform a relevant physical examination
- Provide the necessary documentation for your follow-up, including requests for blood tests and ultrasound
- Assess your first trimester symptoms
- Advise you on the different options for prenatal screening (if desired)
- Our clinic offers Harmony and Panorama tests for an additional fee
- A viability ultrasound will also be performed (from 7 weeks), as well as fetal heartbeat monitoring (from 10 weeks)
– PREGNANCY FOLLOW-UP –
Follow-ups take place monthly at first, then every two to three weeks from 30-32 weeks, and finally weekly from 35-36 weeks until delivery.
At each appointment, our doctor will prescribe blood tests and ultrasounds according to the latest medical recommendations for obstetric follow-up and the progress of your pregnancy.
A morphology ultrasound is performed between the 20th and 22nd week of pregnancy.
The diabetes test is performed between the 24th and 28th week of pregnancy.
The whooping cough vaccine is recommended between the 26th and 32nd week of pregnancy.
The flu vaccine is also recommended from 13 weeks of pregnancy during flu season (generally from fall to early spring).
A growth ultrasound at 32 weeks may be prescribed by the doctor on a case-by-case basis if obstetric complications occur.
Our clinic offers these vaccines as well as the possibility of performing blood tests for an additional fee.

Our clinic will send a copy of your obstetrical file to the labor and delivery unit of the hospital you choose.
When it’s time to give birth, you simply need to go to the maternity unit of your chosen hospital with peace of mind!
– FOR THE MOTHER –
A postpartum follow-up is scheduled about 6 to 8 weeks after childbirth to monitor the new mother’s health.
The appointment includes:
- Assessment of the patient’s physical and mental condition since delivery
- Physical examination of the patient
- Contraception follow-up
- Insertion of an IUD or Nexplanon (if previously planned with the patient)
- Postnatal Pap test (if previously planned with the patient)
- Answers to concerns and questions from the new parents
– FOR THE NEWBORN –
We provide newborn follow-up services after birth.
The initial follow-up is done between the 2nd and 4th week after delivery.
Afterwards, our newborn follow-ups follow the recommendations of the ABCdaire 0-5 ans program developed by CHU Sainte-Justine, aimed at optimal monitoring of preschool children’s development.
Recommended follow-ups by CHU Sainte-Justine include:
- 2nd to 4th week after birth
- 2 months (can be combined with the mother’s postpartum follow-up)
- 4 months
- 6 months
- 9 months
- 12 months
- 18 months
- 2 years, then annually thereafter until age 5
Program includes:
- Monitoring the newborn’s and child’s development
- Comprehensive physical examination of the newborn and child
- Tracking growth parameters from birth (weight, height, head circumference)
- Discussion of routine pediatric vaccinations
- Vaccines offered at the clinic for an additional fee
- Addressing concerns regarding the newborn’s and child’s feeding
Should you start taking folic acid ideally 3 months before pregnancy?
Yes! If you haven’t already, start taking your prenatal vitamins as soon as possible.
Who else can help and advise me with my questions during pregnancy?
Your pharmacist is your best friend during pregnancy. They can advise you and help manage many common symptoms experienced by pregnant women.
What should I do if I need to stop working earlier?
Contact us. We can help you apply for preventive withdrawal through the CNESST before your first pregnancy follow-up appointment.
No matter which hospital you choose for your delivery, there is always an on-call doctor available 24/7 for any obstetric emergency. Contact information for the maternity unit will be provided during your obstetric follow-up with us.
We will give you a “pregnancy bag” at your first obstetric appointment. This bag contains the Better Living guide as well as many informative brochures to guide you through your pregnancy (parental leave procedures, newborn blood and urine screening, Quebec prenatal screening program, etc.).
Cité-de-la-Santé hospital is affiliated with Héma-Québec for blood and umbilical cord donation collection at the time of delivery. If you plan to give birth at this hospital, Dr. Abou Khalil can discuss this program with you.
