What is an HPV screening?

HPV screening looks for the presence of high-risk oncogenic HPV types. These viruses can cause precancerous lesions on the cervix, which may develop into cancer if not detected and treated early. This test is now recommended for all women aged 25 to 65, regardless of symptoms. HPV screening replaces the Pap test, providing a more sensitive method to identify the risk of cervical cancer at an early stage.

Examples of cases we can detect

Our professionals are ready to detect these abnormalities and help you receive prompt and appropriate care.

Cellular abnormalities

Changes in cervical cells may indicate dysplasia or early lesions that require proper monitoring and treatment.

Cervical cancer

It helps detect cancerous or precancerous cells, enabling early management and prompt intervention if needed.

Polyps or benign lesions

The test can reveal the presence of polyps or non-cancerous lesions, allowing for proper evaluation and management.

Cervical dysplasia

Cellular changes in the cervix may indicate dysplasia, requiring regular monitoring to prevent progression to cancer.

HPV Test: Preventing Cervical Cancer

How is an HPV screening performed?
  1. Insertion of a speculum to allow access to the cervix.
  2. Collection of cells using a small instrument for analysis.
  3. Laboratory analysis to detect the presence of high-risk HPV.
  4. This procedure is quick and simple, and it is performed in the same way as a traditional Pap test.

How often should an HPV screening be done?

HPV screening is recommended every 5 years for women aged 25 to 65, unless specific results warrant a different screening interval. This approach reduces the frequency of tests while providing maximum protection.

Why choose HPV screening?

Early detection of HPV infections, which are responsible for almost all cases of cervical cancer.

A more sensitive method than the Pap test, allowing high-risk infections to be detected before they cause cellular abnormalities.

Extended screening interval: a negative result generally allows the next test to be scheduled 5 years later.

Where can I get tested?

A Pap test is performed during a consultation with a doctor, specialized nurse, or gynecologist. Praxis Clinic offers a range of women’s health services, including Pap tests, along with personalized guidance and ongoing follow-up.

Are there any additional tests available?

Women’s health goes beyond a Pap test every 2 or 3 years: whether it’s gynecological exams, contraception, IUD insertion, hormone therapy, HPV vaccination, or breast cancer screening, there are multiple services available to help you maintain your health.

Why has HPV screening replaced the Pap test?

HPV screening has replaced the Pap test because it allows earlier detection of high-risk HPV infections, which are the main causes of cervical cancer. This test is more sensitive and helps extend screening intervals, providing better prevention.
