Have you heard about CardioSTAT?

CardioSTAT-on-patientContinuous recording of your heartbeats allows for more effective detection of potential heart disorders and prevention of serious complications, all thanks to a small revolutionary portable heart monitor.

What is CardioSTAT?

CardioSTAT is a portable ECG monitor (electrocardiogram) approved by Health Canada. Developed in collaboration with the Quebec University Institute of Cardiology and Pulmonology (IUCPQ), this device records the electrical activity of your heart over an extended period to detect possible abnormalities. Unlike a traditional ECG used in hospitals or clinics, a portable ECG records continuously for several days, wherever you are. This prolonged monitoring period, from 48 hours up to 14 days, allows for a more complete and accurate diagnosis of heart rhythm disorders, including atrial fibrillation (AF), the most common cause of stroke. About 1 to 2% of the population may have this condition, and its diagnosis is sometimes accidental.

Traditional Holter or CardioSTAT, what’s the difference?

Both Holter monitors and CardioSTAT are ambulatory cardiac monitoring technologies used to diagnose arrhythmias. These devices are attached to your chest for at least 24 hours and connected by wires to small metal discs called electrodes. Traditional Holters are relatively bulky, cumbersome, and offer little flexibility. CardioSTAT, on the other hand, is compact, lightweight, and especially comfortable. Shaped like a thin, flexible strip placed on the upper chest, the device is invisible under clothing, comfortable even at night, and can be worn during physical activity or even in the shower.

CardioSTAT: the new generation Holter

Launched in 2015, CardioSTAT is the new generation of Holter monitors. Developed by Icentia with input from clients and physicians, it is the ideal tool — more compact, flexible, and comfortable — that perfectly fits your lifestyle without restricting you. Indeed, CardioSTAT allows for heart rhythm recordings twice as long while being 40% smaller than its predecessor. A very advantageous alternative!

Is CardioSTAT right for you?

If your doctor suspects a heart rhythm disorder, you may benefit from continuous cardiac monitoring for several days, depending on your symptoms and health condition. CardioSTAT can help your doctor identify causes of palpitations, dizziness, or fainting. Thanks to the extended monitoring period, the accuracy of diagnosis is significantly increased, ensuring you more reliable results.

How to get CardioSTAT?

A medical prescription is required to access the CardioSTAT portable ECG monitor. The device is then installed by one of our qualified auxiliary nurses — a quick, non-intrusive procedure lasting about twenty minutes, done in a single visit. CardioSTAT is a single-use device, allowing you to start recording quickly without waiting for device availability. After the monitoring period, simply mail the device back using the prepaid envelope provided. Your data will then be analyzed by a highly qualified medical team and an electronic report sent to your doctor.
