It is with great pleasure that we present to you our comprehensive service in psychological health at the PRAXIS family health clinic. Our team of psychologists and specialists in neurosciences, working in psychoeducation, sexology, and also in special education, can provide you with the support you need.

PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT

The psychological assessment service is offered by our two psychologists, Dr. Josée Therrien and Dr. Othmane Barnis, both specialized in neuroscience. They are qualified to assess and intervene with children, adolescents, and adults presenting:

• behavioral and relational difficulties;
• academic difficulties and learning problems;
• socio-affective difficulties and mood disorders;
• giftedness and academic excellence.

Moreover, during the full psychological evaluation, which includes approximately five 2-hour sessions, our professionals use psychometric tools for an optimal assessment allowing for the detection of attention deficit disorders with or without hyperactivity (ADD and ADHD).

After the evaluation, we provide a report including the diagnosis and an intervention plan tailored to the needs of the child or adult. We offer personalized services adapted to the needs of the child, parents, and school team to promote the student’s or adult’s well-being in all areas of life within a context of comprehensive care by our psychological health team.

PSYCHOLOGY CONSULTATION

We provide you with a team of psychologists composed of competent professionals attentive to your needs. Certified by the Ordre des psychologues du Québec (OPQ), our experts in behavior, emotions, and mental health will help you progress at your own pace and equip you to solve your problems.

Many reasons may lead to a consultation: anxiety, stress, phobias, panic disorders, family difficulties, separation, divorce, loneliness, grief, depression, burnout, challenges related to a specific situation, difficulty adapting to changes and culture, and low self-esteem. This service is offered by our three highly qualified psychologists: Ms. Andréa Kocka, Ms. Geneviève Desrochers, Mr. Othmane Barnis, and Ms. Marthe Carrier.

SEXUALITY CONSULTATION

Our sexologist, Ms. Jessy Paul-Hus, holds a master’s degree in sexology, is a member of the Ordre professionnel des sexologues du Québec, and is completing the requirements for her psychotherapist license.

Sexuality and gender are central to many of our social and romantic interactions and occupy an important place in our lives. Whether for individual or couple sessions, our sexologist will offer you avenues for reflection, support towards acceptance and affirmation of your emotional and sexual needs, and assistance in achieving sexual and overall well-being. A wide range of issues can be addressed, such as roles associated with femininity and masculinity, fertility, pregnancy, adaptation to parenthood, evolution of sexual preferences, or challenges of single life and couple life.

The first three sessions serve to assess your situation and needs, as well as to set therapy goals. The systemic approach is emphasized and will help you understand the context in which you live and how it influences your emotional and personal life.

PSYCHOEDUCATION INTERVENTION

Psychoeducation intervention is a personalized education and prevention service adapted to your needs. Whether in-office, at home, or in another living environment, our practitioner Ms. Alexandra Paquin will equip you to make your daily life better adapted.

This service targets a diverse clientele. Children, adults, and seniors can benefit. Our practitioner, Ms. Paquin, focuses on goals or helps implement an intervention plan developed by another professional such as a speech therapist, psychoeducator, psychologist, etc.

The aim of this service is to support you in your various needs. She can also refer you to the appropriate professional when a diagnosis or further evaluation is required. This intervention will provide tools to facilitate your progress and help you achieve your goals. Creativity is at the heart of interventions to guide you towards realistic objectives that can assist you daily.

ASD EVALUATION (Autism Spectrum Disorder)

This evaluation is performed by our psychologist specialized in neuroscience, Dr. Josée Therrien. With over 25 years of experience, she is highly qualified for this service.

People with autism meet two main criteria:

1. Difficulties in communication and social interactions;
2. Presence of stereotyped behaviors and restricted interests.

First, a basic evaluation must be done, assessing intellectual and adaptive functioning. This helps better target the patient’s strengths and weaknesses. Then, the evaluation for autism spectrum disorder can begin. It includes a developmental interview (ADI-R) and an observation interview (ADOS), two tools currently considered gold standards by clinical specialists. After the evaluation, a report including a diagnosis if applicable and recommendations will be provided according to the child’s or adult’s needs.

Our clinic is an evaluation resource that meets criteria for recognition of these diagnoses and thus gives access to specialized services. Government financial aid may be available following this evaluation.

FAMILY COACHING

This service is offered by Ms. Chantal Girodet, a special education teacher. Family coaching aims to restore harmony within the family. Several practical tips will be suggested to parents after a personalized home visit. An action plan will be established to implement these recommendations.

This service guides, reorients, and encourages parents and children to achieve the family’s primary objective. Chantal will help you make the necessary adjustments for smooth daily functioning and promote teamwork. Always emphasizing positive affirmation, you will be able to face family life challenges with confidence and determination.
