Staying motivated with physical activity
We all know that practicing physical activity brings many health benefits, but to feel and see these benefits, it is important to engage in physical activity on a regular basis. This means performing the activity at least three times a week over a long period.
First, set achievable and measurable goals that you can reach. You can display them in places you will see often.
Second, do an activity you enjoy; it will make the task easier and you will no longer see the activity the same way. However, varying your activities can also prevent routine and provide additional motivation.
Third, try to be consistent rather than too intense at the start, which could discourage you. Your body needs to get used to this new lifestyle, and over time, increase the intensity of your activity.
Fourth, it is important to talk about it with the people around you, whether friends, colleagues, or your personal trainer. All these people can help you with encouragement or even join you in your activities.
Fifth, every minute of exercise counts. Don’t hesitate to take the stairs instead of the elevator, go for walks during your work breaks, do your errands on foot, etc. Every day you will find opportunities to move more.
Sixth, it is important to reward yourself and not neglect rest periods. Giving yourself small rewards will motivate you more to reach your goals in your fitness program.
Seventh, you will face some slower periods. Don’t let these drops in motivation get you down; they are part of the process. Try to find strategies to overcome them, and as a Kinesiologist, I can certainly help you during these more difficult times and adjust your fitness program with you.
Keep persevering, the benefits for your quality of life and health are worth it!!
